There are plenty of fantastic local breweries to take Dad to this weekend. The Lakes Distillery produces a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, including: whisky, vodka and gin. You can take a distillery tour that lasts around an hour, and even opt for an additional half-hour guided tasting experience to really get Dad’s spirits up!

Hawkshead Brewery run tours of their brewery every day from 1pm. It’s advisable to book in advance, but well worth the hassle. The tour lasts around 45 minutes and even includes a sneaky pint at the end. Enjoy lunch in the ‘beer hall’, either before or after the tour, and maybe wash down your perfect day with a few more beers!

Car enthusiast Dads will love a nostalgic look at cars through the decades, at the Lakeland Motor Museum near Windermere. Take in the amazing array of classic cars, bicycles and motorcycles from all over the world. With over 30,000 exhibits that trace the development of road transport throughout the twentieth century, there will be no shortage of historical interest for families to peruse.

If you’ve got the kind of Dad that loves 4X4s, mud and trying new things- then Kankku is the perfect adventure for him!

The Gilpin, near Windermere, has two stunning restaurants. the Michelin starred HRiSHi, and the Gilpin Spice. Both restaurants use the Cumbrian history of spice trading as a jumping-off point in creating their exceptional dishes. The imagination and delicacy of the food at the Gilpin is sure to impress any foodie Dad.

L’Enclume in the village of Cartmel, is a two Michelin Star and five AA Rosette restaurant. If your Dad loves fine dining there’s no better place in the Lakes than L’Enclume; and likelihood is that he’s already heard of it! The restaurant prides itself on supplying meals which include locally sourced and foraged ingredients. There is even a 12-acre kitchen garden on site where much of their food is grown.

The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a quaint little narrow-gauge railway, that journeys from the coastal town of Ravenglass to Dalegarth in the Eskdale valley, covering around seven miles of stunning landscape, with several stops on the way. It is one of the most popular attractions in the south-western Lakes.

On the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, you can travel onboard a 1950 steam-train with which takes in three and a half miles of rolling Windermere countryside. It connects up with Windermere Lake Cruises at Lakeside, and combined tickets for the boat and train are available.
