There has been much romance in the Lake District over the years, which is not surprising considering its one of the most beautiful backdrops in Britain! With the days becoming clearer and the long Summer evenings, longer- romance in the Lake District is blooming; much like the bluebells are in Rannerdale!
If you’re considering a romantic break for two in the Lakes this year… here’s a spot of inspiration to whet your appetite for Lakes adventure:
Romantic things to do in the lakes:
A walk, to Colwith Force
The waterfalls in the Lake District are some of the most romantic spots in the country- and non-more than Colwith Force near Elterwater. A beautiful mixture of woodland and water make it a fantastic, romantic destination. Whether it’s for a lunch-time picnic, or just a walk, to admire the pretty shape of the waterfall- Colwith Force will not disappoint on the romance scale.
A day of exploring, on the Lakeside Railway
The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway at the southern end of Windermere is perfectly placed for a full day of attractions around the Windermere area. Other affiliated attractions include: the aquarium; the motor museum; The World of Beatrix Potter, and a boat journey home. Combine any of the above, or just hop off the train and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Fell Foot- perhaps a romantic picnic for two…
Ride into the sunset, at Rookin House
If riding off into the beautiful, mountainous sunset is your idea of romance, the Rooking house is a fantastic stop-off on your Lake District journey. With horse riding for all levels (as well as other outdoor pursuits, if riding isn’t your thing), Rookin house offers a day of adventure and romance for outdoors couples. You can also enjoy: archery; clay pigeon shooting, and go-karting, so you can truly make a fun-filled day of it.
A romantic evening, at Zeffirellis Cinema
A cosy little cinema, come-restaurant/bar for a romantic evening in the heart of Ambleside.
Zeffirellis Cinema has 5 screens and shows a variety of recent and arthouse films, as well as live music nights and evenys. Enjoy the most fantastic pizzas and a drink or two before or after your screening. Zeffirellis offers a deal for dining and watching, just to make your romantic evening go even smoother!
A proposal, at Ennerdale Water
Ennerdale Water is the most westerly of the lakes in the Lake District. It is also one of the more peaceful, beautiful and romantic places in the Lake District.
Coming in at around two-and-a-half miles long, its water is renowned for being superbly clear. The lake is mostly surrounded by woodland, which makes it even more magical. In fact, Ennerdale Water is known to be the place where Bill Clinton proposed to Hillary- how’s that for romantic?
