Summer things to do in the Lake District

Its looking set to be a sizzling Summer this year in the Lake District. If you and the family are visiting the Lakes in the Summer, you’re going to want to spend as much time out and about, and as little time in the car as possible!

There are lots of activities in the Lakes that are perfect for the Summer months. So, whether it’s out in the full, glorious sunshine, or sheltering from the scorching heat, we have some great suggestions for you this Summer.

If you haven’t tried SUP yet, it’s the perfect way to keep cool this Summer. Take to the lakes, on an SUP, with plenty of choices of lakes and companies that offer aquatic adventures, you can enjoy SUP wherever you are in the Lake District. This Summer, Muncaster castle near Ravenglass, has a whole host of outdoor events for families to enjoy. ‘Picnic Cinema’ host cinema events all over the Lake District, and are at Muncaster on the 10^th of August for a screening of the 80’s classic, Beetlejuice.

When the weather is super hot, a shady forest grove walk is the perfect escape. Grizedale forest is a welcome retreat for families who enjoy peaceful walks but need interesting options for the kids too. Follow the many trails, riddled with unusual sculptures and activities for the kids.

Fell the chill, at Cathedral Caverns in Langdale, or Rydal Cave in Grasmere. These two natural caves are an amazing adventure for kids and adults alike. The perfect combination of hiking, exploring, and splashing about in the water- plus the option of a picnic en-route, will make for an excellent Summer day out in the Lake District.

Explore the islands on Derwent Water in Keswick. Hire a boat by the lakeside and have a splash about on the lake, enjoying the amazing views and a tranquil island picnic on a hot Summer’s day.
